Why Hygiene is Important for Those Feet
If you want great looking feet and nails, visiting your local nail technician might be the first option you consider. You’re busy, you’ve got a party that night, and you need to look your best. The truth is that there’s a world of difference between the level of skill, expertise and hygiene found at a nail or pedicure salon and what you get from a team of trained chiropodists and podiatrists.
Here’s the good news: You can get great looking nails at Beauchamp Foot Care and you also have all the extras that come from dealing with highly qualified professionals who know about feet.
One of the major differences between a chiropodist service and your average nail bar is the level of hygiene:
- We sterilise our instruments via an autoclave and put them in individual pouches.
- Single use sterile scalpel blades and burring caps (to thin the nail) are used. New surgical gloves are worn for each patient.
- Brand new buffers, emery boards, and toe separators are used for each pedicure.
- Our footbaths are non-whirlpool and are bacterially sprayed between use.
- We also give a free pair of wearable flip-flops to those who need them.
Pedicure salons usually offer a whirlpool treatment for the feet. These look great and can feel relaxing. The trouble is they’re also great places for cross contamination and bacteria to gather which means you have a bigger chance of picking up an infection.
These devices operate using a pump mechanism that goes under the seat and can creating a reservoir that is difficult to clean to proper hygienic standards. To do that, after each client the nail bar would have to flush it through disinfectant and then wash that out. Spraying the area around your feet is simply not enough to reach the level of cleanliness that is required. There are quite a few infections that can be caused by cross contamination in this way, including:
- Verrucae
- Toenail Fungus (onychomycosis)
- Athlete’s Foot (Tinea Pedis)
If you have sensitive skin, these reservoirs can also hang onto chemicals and perfumed products which may cause irritation if they come into contact with your feet. You can be sure that you will get a very high level of hygiene, competence and expertise at Beauchamp Foot Care. For instance, if you have something like a fungal infection or injury it can thicken the nail on your toe. This can be unsightly even if you paint over it with varnish. Our team use specially designed disposable burring caps to thin down the nail. This is the kind of treatment that needs professional training to do properly, which typically nail bar technicians don’t have.
Your feet are a vitally important part of your overall health and when you come to a qualified chiropodist or podiatrist, rather than a nail bar, you also get access to plenty of advice and guidance whilst enjoying the benefit of our private rooms. We can explain how best to look after your feet and make sure they stay in great condition all the time. We can also deal with any problems you may have such as ingrowing toenails, verrucae and nail fungus.
Building a relationship with a chiropodist rather than visiting your local nail bar is a good idea. It gives you peace of mind that your feet are being looked after by professionals who have the right qualifications, adhere to high standards of hygiene and it doesn’t cost much more than a pedicure in a salon. If you add into it that you can also get fantastic looking feet that look a million dollars, in our opinion it’s a much better choice to visit a foot care clinic than a nail bar.
